Ascending Minds Psychiatry welcomes referrals from healthcare professionals, therapists, counselors, schools, and community organizations seeking psychiatric care for adolescents and adults ages 12–55 throughout Virginia.
We also welcome conversations with organizations interested in expanding access to psychiatric care for adolescents in their communities.
Who Can Refer?
We welcome referrals from professionals and organizations supporting adolescents and adults, including:

Other Healthcare Professionals
Patients and families do not need a professional referral to begin care and may also schedule directly with AMP.

Supporting Documentation
If available, relevant clinical records may be faxed to AMP to support continuity of care. These may include recent progress notes, psychological testing, laboratory results, medication history, or discharge summaries.

Partnering to Expand Access
Every young person deserves access to thoughtful psychiatric care.
Some adolescents experience barriers to consistent mental health care because of family circumstances, placement changes, school challenges, involvement with multiple systems, or limited access to psychiatric providers.
Ascending Minds Psychiatry is interested in developing relationships with organizations serving adolescents throughout Virginia to explore ways psychiatric care may become more accessible to the young people they support.
Schools & Youth Programs
Exploring opportunities to support adolescents connected with schools, educational programs, mentoring programs, and community-based youth organizations.
Foster Care & Residential Programs
Connecting with child welfare organizations, foster care programs, group homes, residential programs, and professionals supporting youth in out-of-home care.
Juvenile Justice & Community Programs
Exploring relationships with diversion programs, juvenile justice programs, detention and reentry services, and other organizations supporting youth involved with community systems.
AMP is currently exploring and developing partnership opportunities. The organizations listed above represent areas of interest and do not imply existing contracts or affiliations.
What Happens Next?
1. Referral Review
AMP reviews the submitted referral information.
2. Patient Contact
The patient or parent/guardian is contacted regarding appropriate next steps and scheduling.
3. Initial Evaluation
When clinically appropriate, the patient may schedule a comprehensive 90-minute psychiatric evaluation.
4. Care Coordination
With appropriate authorization, AMP may communicate with the referring professional to support coordinated care.
Submitting a referral does not guarantee acceptance into treatment. Each referral is reviewed to determine whether AMP is an appropriate clinical fit.
Before Referring
AMP provides outpatient telepsychiatric care throughout Virginia for adolescents and adults ages 12–55.
AMP does not prescribe controlled substances, including stimulants, benzodiazepines, opioids, or other controlled medications, and does not provide emergency psychiatric services.
