Psychiatric Care for Adolescents Ages 12–17
Every young person deserves to feel heard, understood, and supported.
Adolescence brings emotional, social, academic, and developmental changes. When additional support is needed, thoughtful psychiatric care can help adolescents and families better understand what they're experiencing and determine the next steps together.
Compassionate care for the adolescent. Partnership with the family.

Care That Includes the Family—and Respects the Adolescent
Parents and guardians are important partners in adolescent psychiatric care. At the same time, adolescents need a safe, respectful space to develop their own voice and participate in their treatment.
During appointments, parents or legal guardians may participate in portions of the visit while the adolescent is also given developmentally appropriate opportunities to speak privately with the provider.
The goal is not to choose between the adolescent and the family—it is to build a collaborative treatment relationship that supports both.
For the Adolescent
A space to be heard, ask questions, and participate in treatment decisions.
For the Parent/Guardian
Guidance, education, collaboration, and appropriate involvement in care.
For the Family
A shared goal of supporting the adolescent's stability, functioning, growth, and overall wellness.
Reaching Young People Where They Are
Access to psychiatric care should not depend on a young person’s circumstances.
Some adolescents face barriers that make consistent psychiatric care harder to access. They may be navigating foster care, involvement with the juvenile justice system, school challenges, family instability, community stressors, or transitions between systems of care.
Ascending Minds Psychiatry has a growing vision to help bridge those gaps by developing meaningful partnerships with organizations that serve adolescents.
Our vision includes collaboration with:
• Schools and school-based programs
• Foster care and child welfare organizations
• Group homes and residential programs
• Juvenile justice and diversion programs
• Detention and reentry programs
• Youth and community organizations
• Therapists, social workers, pediatric providers, and other professionals serving adolescents
Every young person deserves to be seen as more than a diagnosis, circumstance, placement, or difficult chapter in their story.
